How to Build a Klaviyo Post-Purchase Flow That Drives Repeat Purchases

Post-Purchase is the most commonly neglected of the four core flows. It gets built once, usually as a confirmation email and a review request, and then never touched again. That is a missed opportunity: this flow reaches your warmest possible audience, people who already trust you enough to buy, at the exact moment they are most likely to buy again.

Email 1: order confirmation

Send immediately. Confirm the order, set shipping expectations, and keep it simple. This email exists to reduce anxiety, not to sell.

Email 2: delivery and how-to-use content

Send around the expected delivery date. This is your chance to help the customer get value out of what they bought: usage tips, styling ideas, or setup instructions depending on the product. A customer who actually uses and enjoys the product is far more likely to become a repeat buyer than one who lets it sit in a drawer.

Email 3: review request

Time this to actual delivery, not order date. Asking for a review before the product has arrived guarantees a low response rate and sometimes a frustrated one. Wait until the customer has had a few days to actually use the product.

Email 4: replenishment or cross-sell

This is the email most flows skip entirely, and it is the one with the clearest path to repeat revenue. Time it to the product's natural repurchase cycle: a consumable might warrant a reminder in 30 to 45 days, while a durable good is better suited to a cross-sell into a complementary product.

Segment by product category and purchase cycle

A single post-purchase flow treating every product the same way leaves revenue on the table. If your catalog spans consumables and one-time purchases, split the flow so replenishment timing and cross-sell logic match how each product actually gets used.

  • Consumables: replenishment reminder timed to typical usage cycle
  • Durable goods: cross-sell into complementary products instead of a repurchase ask
  • First-time buyers: slightly longer flow introducing the brand more broadly
  • Repeat buyers: shorter flow that skips brand introduction and gets straight to the next purchase
